Rune is the current king of the Kingdom of the West and formerly a Feather Feral. He served as an antagonist for a large portion of the series.
Appearance[]
Rune is a dark blue-gray male wolf with a jagged scar ripped down the left side of his face. This scar cuts through his left eye. His eyes are an emerald green. He has a scarred muzzle, yellow-stained teeth, three pale grey spots under both eyes, and pale grey inner-ears. Rune wears a red feather of a mandarin duck on his tail, and Mink's blue jay feather on the left side of his neck.
Personality[]
- Rune was a bloodthirsty and power-hungry wolf. He enjoyed ending the life of his enemies and overthrew Vadar's dynasty in order to become king.
- As a pup, Rune was enthusiastic about learning the Feather Feral traditions. He looked up to his father[5], and often looked for approval in his mother Doran.[6]
Trivia[]
- Rune's Brother in Flight is a Mandarin Duck, which are one of his favorite birds, along with jays.[6][7]
- Rune's name means "Secret" in Norse.[8]
- Rune kept the skulls of his murder victims in his den.[6]
- Rune would be about 50 years old in human years.[9]
- When telling Lupis the story of his heritage, it is intended to be ambiguous. As such, Tribble has stated that neither version of Lupis' parentage is canon to the story.[10]
- Contrary to popular belief, Rune did not remove Mink's feather before she died. It has been confirmed that it fell off before she died and Rune was waiting to give it to her. A direct quote from TribbleofDoom: "He did take it when they went back for her head. He didn't remove it when she died, it came off accidentally. He was mad at her, but to die without your feather, is basically the most horrific thing you can do to someone else in his culture. He would never do it on purpose. It fell off (and is seen billowing in Episode 17), and he finds it when he goes for her head, and keeps it, so he can give it to her when he dies and she can have her wings."[11]
Mistakes[]
- When he made his first appearance, Rune's character design featured a torn ear and two v-shaped markings on the sides of both his eyes. He also had a lighter markings on his chest, paws, and the underside of his tail. In later episodes these markings weren't included, nor was the torn ear.[12]
- He has been mistakenly shown with both three and four spots under his eyes (in separate scenes).
- Rune is also mistakenly shown without the markings under his eyes in several episodes.
- In Episode 8, when he was first introduced (due to the fact that his design changed).[12]
- In Episode 17, Rune is missing his markings right before killing Balder, and before killing Mink.[13]
- In Episode 19, when Kia tells him about Lupis.[14]
- In Episode 20, when he tells Mink to stay. He is also missing them after being found unconscious in the snow.[5]
- In Episode 22, when talking about Lupis with Fang, and when he counts to threaten him.[15]
- During Episode 24, when Marra describes her story. He is missing them when he talks to Lupis, after he challenges him to a duel. Rune is also missing his markings when he advises Lupis to always be "the hunter".[16]
- In Episode 25, when he tells Lupis that Balder killed his siblings. After being killed, he's also missing his markings.[17]
- In Episode 26, lying dead in the snow.[18]

- —Rune to Marra The Meeting, 4:22

- —Rune to Lupis Who's Your Daddy?, 10:12
Dialogues[]
- Rune: "I thought he'd taken everything from me, but he did not take you, Lupis. I'm not bringing you home to kill you. I'm bringing you home as a son. The son I've always wanted. The one with Mink. I want you to take my throne in the kingdom. I'm done being the Mad Eyed King. All I want is to teach you to be better than I am."
- Lupis: "If I go with you, can you make sure the Kingdom wolves come and help Luna?"
